Job Duties

As a Human Resources Specialist 4 (Classification & Compensation, you would review incoming title and salary requests to determine the scope and depth of analysis needed and assigns cases to staff, making suggestions regarding the conduct of the analysis; guide staff in conducting fact gathering and analysis; review staff work for completeness, clarity, soundness of conclusions, and practicality of recommendations; personally conduct the analysis on sensitive applications, major reorganizations, and requests where decisions have major ramifications; conduct conferences with agency's HR and program managers, and departmental staff to resolve issues; manage research and salary surveys, and other major projects for the Division; and train and develop staff to ensure their technical competency and prepare them for potential advancement.

Summary of Minimum Qualifications

The eligible list for the Principal Classification and Pay Analyst examination is used to fill this title.

You must take and pass a Civil Service examination to be considered for this position.

On or before the day of the examination, you must be a qualified employee of the New York State Department of Civil Service and have had three months of permanent competitive or 55b/c service  as an Associate Classification and Pay Analyst (now called Human Resources Specialist 2 (Classification & Compensation).
