Job Duties

As a Regional Supervisor of Natural Resources, you would report to the Regional Director of Environmental Conservation and be responsible for implementing a Region's natural resources conservation and development program. You would coordinate and integrate natural resource programs among natural resource units and serve as the immediate supervisor to the regional managers of Lands and Forests, Wildlife, Fisheries, Habitat, Marine Resources (where applicable), Real Property and Minerals. You will also coordinate with other organizational units in the Region particularly Permits, Law Enforcement, Operations, Legal Affairs, Administration and Environmental Quality programs as appropriate. You would conduct continuous program evaluation and institute necessary changes. You would review the organization, administration systems, procedures and management practices of natural resource programs to ensure efficient program implementation. You would request and allocate fiscal and personnel resources in natural resource programs to reflect changing program needs, priorities and mandates in the Region within mandated constraints. You would represent the Region and the Department at conferences, professional and administrative meetings and other functions as appropriate. You would review and determine staff development requirements for regional natural resource program personnel. You would recommend policies and procedures for the conduct and integration of regional natural resource programs and work with Central Office program staff to develop and implement policies and procedures on a statewide basis.

Summary of Minimum Qualifications

You must take and pass a Civil Service examination in order to be considered for this position.

On or before the date of the examination, you must be a qualified employee of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and have had three months of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as: a Biologist 2 (all parenthetics), Biologist 3 (all parenthetics), Environmental Program Specialist 2 (Natural Resources), Fish Culturist 5, Fish Culturist 6, Forester 2, Forester 3, Mined Land Reclamation Specialist 2, Mined Land Reclamation Specialist 3, Mineral Resources Specialist 3, Mineral Resources Specialist 4, Real Estate Specialist 2 (Conservation), or Senior Land Surveyor.
