Job Duties

As an Environmental Analyst 3, you would direct staff in the preparation of program guidelines, review more complex impact statements and accompanying analyses, and assist in the preparation of impact statements. You would prepare and present testimony at public hearings and prepare permits for construction or other environmental changes. You would supervise/administer the permit/project management system; propose and/or evaluate environmental policy, regulations, and legislation; and supervise staff in the conduct of compliance assistance and outreach activities.

Summary of Minimum Qualifications

You must take and pass an examination in order to be considered for this position.  

There are two examinations used to fill this position.

For qualified employees of New York State: On or before the last date for filing applications, you must be a qualified employee of New York State and have had three months or permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as an Environmental Analyst 2.

For all other qualified individuals you must have a bachelor's or higher-level degree in civil, environmental, or geological engineering; environmental planning; environmental studies; environmental, natural, or physical science; land use planning; archeology; geography; or landscape architecture. In addition, you must have four years experience in a position having substantial relationship to environmental analysis; two years of which must have been as a supervisor of professional staff.
