Job Duties

The Interpretive Programs Coordinator (IPC), working under the immediate direction of the Historic Preservation Program Coordinator, is responsible for developing a broad range of interpretive and educational programs for use at the agency’s historic sites and historic parks. These programs include publications, interpretive signs, exhibits, seminars and special events. The IPC conducts historical research in support of expanding themes and storylines for tours and other interpretive media, writes and edits scripts, conducts seminars and provides training in historic interpretation, and manages projects in consultation with other Bureau and historic site staff. The IPC supervises one or more staff assigned to the Interpretation and Exhibits Unit.

Summary of Minimum Qualifications

You must take and pass a Civil Service examination in order to be considered for this position.

On or before the date of the examination, the candidate must be a qualified employee of the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation and have had three months of permanent competitive or 55 b/55-c service as either:

A. as an Interpretive Programs Assistant;

OR

B. as a Historic Site Manager C.
