Job Duties

As an Architect, in general, you would perform duties related to advanced professional architectural work on building plans and designs; such as develop sketches into working drawings and details of building projects; study, review, and evaluate preliminary and final plans, specifications and drawings; and supervise assistants in architectural work. You might coordinate the services of engineers and contractors; confer with clients and consultants; and do other related work as required. You might also perform technical reviews of consultants' drawings and related details for such factors as compliance with appropriate codes, laws, regulations and standards, functional design features and cost.

The level of the titles within this career ladder vary based on the level of supervision, complexity of the duties involved, degree of independent judgment, etc.

Summary of Minimum Qualifications

You must take and pass a Civil Service examination in order to be considered for this position.

For qualified employees of New York State on or before the date of the examination, you must be a qualified employee of the New York State Office of General Services and have had three months of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as an Associate Architect or Building Construction Program Manager 4 AND you must possess a New York State Registered Architect's license and current registration at the time of appointment.
