Job Duties

As a Biologist (Ecology), in general, you would, under supervision, conduct and coordinate impact analysis reviews and recommend mitigative action. You would identify potential resource impacts; compile resource information pertaining to resource impact of various projects including field investigations; identify mitigative actions and evaluate the effectiveness of mitigation; and prepare for and participate in public hearings. You would also quantify and evaluate the effects of contaminants on fish and wildlife.

The level of the titles within this career ladder vary based on the level of supervision, complexity of the duties involved, degree of independent judgment, etc.

Summary of Minimum Qualifications

You must take and pass a Civil Service examination in order to be considered for this position.

For qualified employees of New York State on or before the date of filing application, candidates must be a qualified employee of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and have had three months of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as a Biologist 1 (Aquatic), (Ecology), (Marine), or (Wildlife).
