Job Duties

As a Biologist 3 (Marine), you would supervise units consisting of Biologists 2, Biologists 1, Fish & Wildlife Technicians, and seasonal positions; develop, implement and direct major program areas for marine resources, with responsibility for program planning, budgeting and personnel management; manage programs aimed at marine species such as finfish, shellfish, crustacean and protected resources in New York's Marine and Coastal District; oversee management and investigation of marine species; coordinate field units conducting surveys, scientific studies, research, and data collection; conduct public outreach; facilitate access to commercial and recreational fishing; oversee estuary and program implementation, marine habitat assessment and restoration as well as protection through the wetland regulatory program; establish workload priorities consistent with the annual work plan; perform the full range of supervisory duties for subordinates; and prepare and manage the section's annual budget and control expenditures.

Summary of Minimum Qualifications

You must take and pass a Civil Service examination in order to be considered for this position.

On or before the date of the examination, you must be a qualified employee of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and have had three months of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as a Biologist 2 (Marine).
