Job Duties

As a Health Program Investigation Specialist 1, you would evaluate and implement policies, procedures, and systems for the prevention, detection, investigation, and prosecution of fraud and abuse or violations of the Public Health Law in programs regulated by the Department of Health. You would supervise subordinate investigators by assigning cases, reviewing reports, tracking the status of investigations, providing training and technical assistance, and evaluating staff performance; prepare written reports on the status of assigned cases; coordinate and conduct difficult investigations; and may be required to testify at hearings and/or trials.

Summary of Minimum Qualifications

You must take and pass a Civil Service examination in order to be considered for this position.

On or before the date of the examination, the candidate must be a qualified employee of the New York State Department of Health and have had three months of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as either:

A. an Investigator 2 or Senior Investigator;

OR

B. an Investigative Specialist 1, Investigative Specialist 1 (Spanish Language), Investigative Specialist 1 (Narcotics), Investigative Specialist 1 (Narcotics) (Spanish Language), Narcotic Investigator 1, Narcotic Investigator 1 (Spanish Language), Senior Medical Conduct Investigator, or Senior Medical Conduct Investigator (Spanish Language).
