Job Duties

A Crime Victims Specialist 2 (Spanish Language) will provide direction and advice to Crime Victims Specialists 1 on complicated and/or unusual claims, review and evaluate claims for completeness and accuracy, instruct, orally and in writing, staff on changes in agency policies and procedures, train subordinates in claims processing activities, periodically review caseload with Crime Victims Specialists 1 to ensure that production standards are met, personally process complex and/or unusual claims, confer with Office of Victim Services management and Crime Victims Specialists 3 on complex claims, and confer with police, district attorneys, medical and dental consultants to resolve issues.

Summary of Minimum Qualifications

You must take and pass a Civil Service examination in order to be considered for this position.

On or before the date of the examination, the candidate must be a qualified employee of the New York State Office of Victim Services and have had three months of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as either a:

A. Crime Victims Specialist Trainee, Crime Victims Specialist 1, or Crime Victims Specialist 1 (Spanish Language);

OR

B. Program Aide, Program Aide (Spanish Language), Agency Program Aide, or Agency Program Aide (Spanish Language).

If you are selected for appointment as a Crime Victims Specialist 2 (Spanish Language), you will be required to demonstrate proficiency in that language. Proficiency must be at a level which will permit you to perform the duties of the position satisfactorily.
