Job Duties

Maintenance Supervisors 3 (Transportation) directly supervise multiple-second level supervisors in the repair and maintenance of State highways and bridges; ensure that safety standards are followed; review highway work permit applications; review contracts; procure tools, supplies and equipment; plan work schedules for, direct the activities of and participate in all aspects of supervising maintenance and administrative staff. They oversee storm operational plans and manage the readiness of equipment, staff and materials during snow and ice emergencies and are responsible for maintaining facilities to which they are assigned. They may be required to be proficient in various DOT-specific systems of record.

You must take and pass a Civil Service examination in order to be qualified for this title.

For qualified employees of New York State:
On or before the date of examination, you must be a qualified employee of the New York State Department of Transportation and have had three months of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as a Highway Maintenance Supervisor 2, Bridge Repair Supervisor 2, Principal Engineering Technician or Supervising Equipment Operator Instructor.

Only the title or titles listed are qualifying.
