Job Duties

Thruway Maintenance Workers, working alone or as part of a team, perform semiskilled duties required to maintain, improve, repair, and reconstruct the infrastructure of the Thruway and Canal Corporation.  The infrastructure includes, but is not restricted to: pavements, shoulders, medians, rights-of-way, ramps, interchanges, bridges, culverts, water control and other structures, appurtenances and retaining walls.  In addition, incumbents perform snow and ice control activities as required.  Incumbents operate and perform minor repair and maintenance on a variety of self-propelled and other equipment in the course of their duties.

Summary of Minimum Qualifications

This title is non-competitive.  No examination is necessary.  However, you must still meet the Minimum Qualifications of the position.

Candidates must have:  A.  Satisfactory completion of a three year Thruway Maintenance Worker Traineeship OR B. possession of a New York State Commercial Driver License Class B with air-brake endorsement AND one year's experience operating construction equipment and vehicles AND EITHER two years' experience in carpentry, masonry, ironwork, welding, or other trade related to bridge construction or repair OR training received through completion of a two year technical school course in carpentry, masonry, welding, ironwork or other trade related to bridge construction or repair OR completion of a high school technical course in carpentry, masonry, welding, ironwork or other trade related to bridge construction or repair and 12 months' experience in bridge construction or repair.
