Job Duties

Supervisor Radio Communications:  responsible for all technical and administrative functions related to the Department of Correctional Services’ (DOCS) Radio Communications System.  The incumbent functions as the contract administrator for communications contracts; prepares and proposes the Department’s Security Radio Budget; reviews all facility generated invoices for radio repairs and/or batteries for approval or denial; develops and maintains appropriate EDP systems for inventory control; assists in conducting regular surveys of each facilities communications needs; assists in preparing specifications and purchase orders for new or replacement equipment; provides technical assistance to facility and executive staff on equipment radio programming, new equipment initiatives, and contracts; researches and suggests methods to improve and expand the Department’s radio systems; administers all FCC requirements regarding frequency searches, coordination, and licensing; interfaces with FCC and Industry Canada as needed for problem resolution; assist executive staff in drafting training syllabus, and policy and procedure manuals; and provides technical training to security staff as needed.
