Job Duties

A Fire Protection Specialist 3 is responsible for supervising, overseeing and coordinating technical assistance and advisory services.  In general, you would provide staff development and training; make program and policy recommendations; identify and set-up outside technical experts for training programs; review materials (manuals, reports, instructional materials, data, etc.) for use of latest technology and training techniques; make recommendations for new and/or continued certification for training programs; review nominations for course attendance to determine appropriate training levels; oversee and perform technical assistance and emergency response activities; assist with administrative functions, including fiscal, personnel and support services; prepare technical reports; and represent the State Fire Administrator at meetings and conferences with local officials.

Summary of Minimum Qualifications

You must take and pass a Civil Service examination in order to be considered for this position.

On or before the date of the examination, the candidate must be a qualified employee of the New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services and have had three months of permanent competitive or 55/b-55-c service as a Fire Protection Specialist 2.
