Job Duties

As a Business Enterprise Program Specialist 1, you would be responsible for oversight and providing guidance to legally blind managers of Business Enterprise facilities located in one of the three district office territories in Albany, New York City, and Buffalo. (Business Enterprise facilities are small retail facilities, such as a news stand, snack bar, or cafeteria established by the New York State Commission for the Blind and located across New York State). Duties include, but are not limited to: conducting regular on-site visits to oversee the operation of vending facilities and operators to ensure conformity with program policies and accepted business practices; consulting facility operators in areas of facility financial matters, employer relations, and sanitation; purchasing and maintenance of facility equipment; stimulating program growth and continuity through the pursuit of new opportunities, assignments, and projects; conducting site surveys; serving as a liaison with host agencies, consumers, private vendors, and governmental regulatory agencies to maintain program goals; preparing and maintaining required reports and documents in program files; assisting in training current managers and candidates in the Business Enterprise Program Manager training program; and evaluating store layouts for efficiency, to maximize space, improve traffic flow, and market products, in existing and new facilities construction.
