Job Duties
As a Veterans Benefits Advisor 2, under the general direction of higher level staff, you will supervise multiple Veterans’ Affairs offices in an assigned region of the state. You will supervise Veterans Benefits Advisor 1’s and advise local veterans’ service agencies in regard to new policy or changes in existing policy. You will examine and evaluate operations of local service agencies, conduct training courses for the Veterans Benefits Advisors and for local service personnel, and advise veteran organizations and community groups of the Division’s programs. In addition, you will serve as a liaison between the agency and the U.S. Department of Veterans’ Affairs, be responsible for claims in your region, and perform other duties as directed.

Summary of Minimum Qualifications

You must take and pass a civil service examination in order to be considered for this position.
On or before the date of the examination, the candidate must be a qualified employee of the New York State Division of Veterans’ Affairs and have had three months of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as a Veterans Benefits Advisor 1 or Veterans Benefits Advisor 1 (Spanish Language).
