Job Duties

DIRECTOR PUBLIC WORK WAGE INVESTIGATION plans and directs the program and activities of the Bureau of Public Work: supervises the department's program of enforcing the requirement that workers employed on public work projects receive the prevailing wage for their craft and of placing all contractors at the same competitive level when bidding on public work contracts; coordinates field and office services; coordinates the work of the Bureau with other parts of the depart­ment and with other agencies of the state; confers with employees, contractors and representatives of employees or employers in matters not resolved on a lower level; reviews the reports of hearings held by area supervisors and conducts hearings on violations having Statewide significance; proposes legislation in connection with the sections of the Labor Law dealing with public work.

Summary of Minimum Qualifications

You must take and pass a Civil Service examination in order to be considered for this position.

For qualified employees of New York State on or before the date of filing applications you must have One year of permanent competitive or 55b/55c service as a Supervising Public Work Wage Investigator.
