Job Duties

As a Vehicle Safety Technical Analyst 3, you would manage, coordinate, and evaluate Division of Vehicle Safety Services programs and projects, including development of programs resulting from new legislation. You would serve as technical liaison to the automotive industry, state and federal agencies, other Department of Motor Vehicle divisions, and the general public. You would work with the Department of Environmental Conservation to coordinate program requirements. You would supervise Vehicle Safety Technical Analysts 1’s and/or Vehicle Safety Technical Analysts 2’s; prepare data for the annual budget; plan, implement, and direct technical training programs for the automotive industry; and handle public relations. You would be responsible for the administration of the New York Vehicle Inspection Program (NYVIP). This involves overseeing the day to day emissions equipment vendor activity. You would also be instrumental in the planning and development of future emission program Request for Proposals (RFP) which result in a complex multi-year contract affecting inspection stations across New York State.

You must take and pass a Civil Service examination in order to be considered for this position.

On or before the date of the examination, the candidate must be a qualified employee of the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles and have had three months of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as a Vehicle Safety Technical Analyst 2, Supervisor Consumer and Facility Services, or a Senior Automotive Facilities Inspector.
