As an Examination Composition Assistant, you would use a variety of software and specific formatting rules, which vary depending on the subject matter of the examination, to electronically compose examination questions, response sheets, rating scales, and other examination materials for examinations administered by the State Education Department and the Department of Civil Service. This work includes formatting text and graphics; creating tables; and documenting each step of the process for each test item as it is developed, revised, used, and as needed, formally reviewed after use in an examination. The work is exacting and performed under tight deadlines with a goal of 100% accuracy. Ancillary duties include assisting consultants and tracking their work time and other office duties.

You must take and pass a Civil Service examination in order to be considered for this examination.
On or before the date of the examination, the candidate must be a qualified employee of the New York State Education Department and have had three months of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as an Office Assistant 1 (Keyboarding) or Office Assistant 2 (Keyboarding).
