Summary of Job Description

As an Associate in School Library Services, you would provide leadership, consultation, and expertise in the strengthening of school library media programs, facilities, and standards to improve student achievement; develop and administer school library media program improvement initiatives for high-need schools including grants, technical assistance, and workshops; collect and analyze data and information regarding library trends, concerns, or issues related to improving student achievement; work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to strengthen school library programs and raise awareness of the impact of good programs on raising student achievement; serve as a representative of the State Education Department on initiatives to promote improving library media programs and student achievement; and analyze Basic Educational Data Systems (BEDS) data and produce reports to inform legislative initiatives and school decision making.

You must take and pass a Civil Service examination in order to be considered for this position.

Candidates must have:

a master’s degree in library science; AND

permanent or professional certification as a School Media Specialist, Library Media Specialist, or School Media Specialist (Library); AND

five years of library experience, including one or more years in charge of a school library.
