Job Duties

As an Education Program Manager 1, you would supervise professional educators responsible for program implementation, examination planning and development, provision of technical assistance, program monitoring, and school accountability and improvement at the State Education Department. You would coordinate the development of policy related to student support services, ensure that policies and programs promote educational equity by providing support to districts and schools, and manage program development related to early childhood education, religious and independent schools, educational accountability programs, turnaround and redesign of low performing schools and fostering safe and healthy schools. You would also oversee the fiscal, administrative, and operational functions of the assigned program office. You would administratively supervise Supervisor Education Programs, Grade 28, and other professional education staff.

Summary of Minimum Qualifications

You must take and pass a Civil Service examination in order to be considered for this position.

On or before the date of the examination, you must be a qualified employee of the New York State Department of Education and have had 45 days of permanent competitive, non-competitive NY HELPS*, or 55-b/55-c service as shown below. If you have received a permanent appointment to a qualifying title listed and served provisionally** in that title immediately preceding your permanent appointment, such provisional service may be counted towards meeting the time in title required for this examination.

Either A. Supervisor Education Programs, Supervisor Education of Children with Disabilities, Supervisor Educational Testing, Supervisor Higher Education Programs, Supervisor of Occupational Education, Supervisor of Professional Education Programs, Supervisor School Improvement Planning, or Supervisor School Business Management;
     Or B. Associate in Instructional Services (any specialty area), Associate in Educational Planning and Evaluation, Associate in School Nursing, Associate in Education Improvement Services, Associate in Bilingual Education, Associate in Education Research, Associate in School Business Management, Associate in Continuing Education, Associate in Education of Children with Disabilities, Associate in Education Improvement Services, Associate in Educational Testing, Associate in Higher Education Opportunity, Associate in Higher Education, Associate in Intercultural Relations, Associate in Nursing Education, Associate in Nursing Education (Addictions), Associate in Occupational School Supervision, Associate in Professional Education, Associate in Teacher Education, or Associate in School Library Service.
