As a Building Construction Program Manager 2, you would perform duties that are similar to, but more complex than those of a Building Construction Program Manager 1. You may be assigned to manage medium sized and fairly complex building construction projects as well as oversight of major rehabilitation and renovation projects. You may supervise and train subordinate staff.

You must take and pass a Civil Service examination in order to be considered for this position.
There are two examinations held for this position. Please note: New York State employees may qualify for both.
For employees of New York State, on or before the date of the examination, the candidate must be a qualified employee of New York State and have had three months of competitive or 55-b/55-c service as:
Either A. Building Construction Program Manager 1;
Or B. Assistant Architect, Landscape Architect, Assistant Engineer (all parenthetics), Construction Estimator 2 (all parenthetics), Facilities Planner 1, or Senior Superintendent of Construction.
For all other qualified individuals, candidates must have:
Either 1. seven years of experience in multi-trade building construction, which must have included two years of managing multiple building construction projects. Experience managing multi-trade building construction projects shall include responsibility for three or more of the following areas: construction planning, coordination of multiple trades, cost estimating, project scheduling, material purchasing, resource management (including labor, material, and equipment scheduling), and construction document reading and interpretation (e.g. plans and specifications).
Or 2. an associate’s degree in architecture, architectural technology, building science, construction technology, construction management, engineering, engineering technology, landscape architecture AND five years of experience in multi-trade building construction that must have included two years of managing multiple building construction projects. Experience managing multi-trade building construction projects shall include responsibility for three or more of the following areas: construction planning, coordination of multiple trades, cost estimating, project scheduling, material purchasing, resource management (including labor, material, and equipment scheduling), and construction document reading and interpretation (e.g. plans and specifications).
Or 3. a bachelor’s degree in architecture, architectural technology, building science, construction technology, construction management, engineering, engineering technology, landscape architecture AND three years of experience in multi-trade building construction that must have included two years of managing multiple building construction projects. Experience managing multi-trade building construction projects shall include responsibility for three or more of the following areas: construction planning, coordination of multiple trades, cost estimating, project scheduling, material purchasing, resource management (including labor, material, and equipment scheduling), and construction document reading and interpretation (e.g. plans and specifications).
Non-Qualifying Experience: Experience building roads and bridges.
