Job Duties

As an Architect 3, you would direct a major architectural program, managing complex architectural and design projects. You would supervise multiple levels of architect positions and other staff engaged in the design and managing of state building projects.

Summary of Minimum Qualifications

You must take and pass a Civil Service examination in order to be considered for this position.

On or before the date of the examination, you must be a qualified employee of New York State and have had three months of permanent competitive, non-competitive NY HELPS*, or 55-b/55-c service as Architect 2** or Building Construction Program Manager 4, AND you must possess a New York State Registered Architect's license and current registration at the time of appointment. If you are not registered at the time of appointment, your name will be inactivated and you will not be certified for appointment until you renew your registration and send a copy to the appointing authority. If you have received a permanent appointment to a qualifying title listed and served provisionally*** in that title immediately preceding your permanent appointment, such provisional service may be counted towards meeting the time in title required for this examination.

**Due to the May 23, 2024, title structure change, permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as an Associate Architect is also qualifying.
