Summary of Job Description

As an Assistant Director Addiction Treatment Center, you would serve as second-in-charge at one of twelve New York State operated Addiction Treatment Centers (ATC’s) located statewide providing in-patient treatment services to a chemically addicted population. You would be responsible for many aspects of the day-to-day management of administrative, clinical, and support services provided by the ATC.

Summary of Minimum Qualifications

You must take and pass a Civil Service examination in order to be considered for this position.

There are two examinations held for this position. Please note: New York State employees may qualify for both.

For employees of New York State, on or before the date of the examination, the candidate must be a qualified employee of the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services and have had three months of permanent competitive or 55 b/55-c service as:

a Psychologist 2, Nurse 3 (Psychiatric), Nurse Administrator 1 (Psychiatric), Nurse Administrator 2 (Psychiatric), Licensed Master Social Worker 2, Licensed Master Social Worker 2 (Spanish Language), Addictions Counselor 3, Nurse Practitioner (Adult Health), Nurse Practitioner (Family Health), or Nurse Practitioner (Psychiatry),

AND;

You must be designated as a Qualified Health Professional (QHP) as defined in New York Codes, Rules, and Regulations No. 14, Chapter XXI, Part 800.3(l). Definition of a QHP is available at https://www.oasas.ny.gov/regs/documents/800.pdf(pdf).

For all other qualified individuals, on or before the date of the examination you must have:

Either A. a bachelor’s degree AND four years of experience providing addiction services, which must have included providing clinical supervision, program planning, and administration of a licensed or certified addictions program. One year of the experience must have been at a supervisory level AND you must also be designated as a Qualified Health Professional (QHP) as defined in New York Codes, Rules and Regulations No. 14, Chapter XXI, Part 800.3(I). OR B. a master’s degree in community mental health, counseling, education, human services, mental health, nursing, occupational therapy, psychology, rehabilitation, social work, or sociology AND three years of experience providing addiction services, which must have included providing clinical supervision, program planning, and administration of a licensed or certified addictions program. One year of the experience must have been at a supervisory level AND you must also be designated as a Qualified Health Professional (QHP)) as defined in New York Codes, Rules and Regulations No. 14, Chapter XXI, Part 800.3(I).
