Summary of Job Description

As a Senior Unemployment Insurance Reviewing Examiner, you would oversee and train Unemployment Insurance Reviewing Examiners who apply the Unemployment Insurance Law, administrative rulings, and precedent adjudicated decisions, to determine worker status and employee coverage under Unemployment Insurance Law, employer contribution liability and experience rating, and Unemployment Insurance benefit claims contingent on employee coverage or employer liability. You would make determinations on questions of liability and coverage, penalty assessments and wage reporting issues; handle the most sensitive or difficult cases; and prepare appeal briefs.

Summary of Minimum Qualifications

You must take and pass an examination in order to be considered for this position.  

For all qualified New York State employees: On or before the date of examination, you must be a qualified employee of the New York State Department of Labor and have had three months of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as an Unemployment Insurance Reviewing Examiner or an Unemployment Insurance Reviewing Examiner Trainee.
After one year of service as an Unemployment Insurance Reviewing Examiner, successful candidates will be qualified for appointment from the eligible list.
