Job Duties
A HIGHWAY MAINTENANCE WORKER 1 will perform routine manual tasks requiring medium to heavy physical effort involving exposure to all kinds of weather conditions. Summer duties involve paving, resurfacing, roadside maintenance, drainage maintenance, traffic control, and other assigned tasks. Will be expected to operate plows during winter operations and to obtain the appropriate equipment certifications.

This title is non-competitive. No examination is necessary.
Candidates must have a satisfactory completion the Highway Maintenance Worker Traineeship 2 or one year of experience in the operation of highway construction, maintenance equipment, or other vehicles in excess of 26,000 Gross Vehicle Weight Rating with air brakes and manual transmission and possession of a Class A or B Commercial Driver License with DOT-specified endorsements, and two NYSDOT equipment operation certifications, in addition to the following three specific certifications: heavy dump truck, one person plowing with single or double wing, and front-end loader.
