As a Traffic Signal Coordinator, under the general direction of the traffic signal unit manager, you would supervise, coordinate, and direct all traffic control equipment testing activities. You would also supervise and provide support to all traffic signal staff in the field and laboratory; coordinate with consultants to meet software and hardware needs; oversee quality control activities in the traffic signal laboratory; evaluate and make final recommendations regarding the purchase and installation of new traffic signal devices and related equipment; review complaints and ensure proper operation of all traffic signals and related equipment; develop and provide training programs for all staff in the traffic signal laboratory; review and approve annual budget requests and work programs; and maintain records of equipment failures based upon repair activities.

You must take and pass a Civil Service examination in order to be considered for this position.
On or before the date of examination, candidates must have EITHER:
1. eight years of experience in traffic signal operations including the development, programming, testing, modification, upgrade, and debugging/documenting of traffic signal operational parameters; using test and diagnostic equipment for the deployment of traffic signal operation parameters for intersection control hardware; and developing and implementing arterial and Closed Loop Signal Systems;*
OR
2. an associate's degree in computer science, mathematics, technology, or engineering AND six years of the experience described above;*
OR
3. a bachelor's degree in computer science, mathematics, technology, or engineering AND four years of the experience described above;*
OR
4. a master's degree in computer science, mathematics, technology, or engineering AND three years of the experience described above.*
*ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT: One year of your qualifying experience specified above must have included the supervision and training of technical and field staff on the operational aspects of electronic equipment and related software for transportation related devices. Your supervisory experience must be detailed on your application.
Important: Travel is required and could be extensive. You are required to have a driver's license valid in New York State to operate a motor vehicle or otherwise demonstrate your capacity to meet the transportation needs of the job.
