Job Duties

As a Vocational Specialist 2, you may perform all of the same duties and functions as a Vocational Specialist 1, provide administrative supervision to staff, and assess and improve the education and training programs and methods used to increase the employability of youth released from OCFS facilities. You would review the records of education and training provided to youth at facilities to determine the effectiveness and areas for improvement, conduct local job market surveys in the private sector to ensure that vocational training is relevant to the needs of the labor market, develop and maintain cooperative arrangements with facilities and community-based programs through field visits and phone contacts, assist facilities in designing curricula that addresses academic and vocational training needs, and establish a system for placing youth in jobs appropriate to their skill level, aptitude and interests. Vocational Specialists assist in an administrative capacity to aid the education administrator with monitoring education programming and responsible for data entry in various types of data systems.

You must take and pass a Civil Service examination in order to be considered for this position.

For qualified employees of New York State on or before the date of the examination, you must be a qualified employee of the New York State Office of Children and Family Services and have had three months of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c non-competitive service as a Vocational Specialist 1.
