As a Supervising Labor Services Representative (Spanish Language), you would supervise Labor Services Representatives and clerical staff who provide employment services to job seekers and businesses and provide information and services to Department of Labor (DOL) customers related to Unemployment Insurance (UI) benefits and contributions pursuant to State and federal laws and regulations and program availability or provide information related to the Unemployment Insurance appeals process. You would interpret and convey information regarding legal decisions and interpretations of UI Law, employment and training legislation, and related policies and programs for staff; ensure the delivery of services to customers; and resolve specific complaints from the claimants, job seekers and businesses.

You must take and pass a Civil Service examination in order to be considered for this position.
On or before the date of the examination, you must be a qualified employee of the New York State Department of Labor and have had 45 days of permanent competitive, non-competitive NY HELPS*, or 55-b/55-c service as shown below. If you have received a permanent appointment to a qualifying title listed and served provisionally** in that title immediately preceding your permanent appointment, such provisional service may be counted towards meeting the time in title required for this examination.

*If you were permanently appointed via the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide (NY HELPS) program to a qualifying title in the non-competitive class on or before October 23, 2024, and have served continuously in this title since that date, you may apply for this examination.
**If you were permanently appointed to a qualifying title and had provisional service in the same title immediately preceding the permanent appointment, such provisional service may be counted towards meeting the time in title required to apply for this examination. Your provisional appointment must have been on or before October 23, 2024, to qualify for this examination.
If you are selected for appointment as a Supervising Labor Services Representative (Spanish Language), you will be required to demonstrate proficiency in that language. Proficiency must be at a level which will permit you to perform the duties of the position satisfactorily.
