Job Duties

As a Workers Compensation Assistant Medical Director, you would provide medical expertise to the Workers Compensation Board Chair and executive staff on health care programs, authorization of licensed physicians, chiropractors, podiatrists and psychologists, granting of licenses to medical bureaus, medical centers, laboratories and treatment of injured workers; personally write medical opinions in intricate and disputed cases referred to the Administrative Review Division; write medical opinions in complicated death cases; issue medical opinions on causal relationship, advisability of operations, diagnosis, schedule loss findings, necessity for further treatment and examination in the most complex cases; prepare written and oral reports on controversial medical subjects; develop and implement strategies and programs to ensure appropriate training for adjudicators, health care providers and medical reviewers who utilize the medical fee schedule and treatment guidelines; ensure that agency rules and regulations concerning the treatment guidelines, reporting requirements, billing procedures, dispute resolution and education certification requirements is consistent with educational content; work with Counsel's Office and Office of Financial Services to prepare request for information/request for proposals to solicit vendors with experience in medical issues and treatment guidelines, and drug formulary to develop content of the medical elements of training curriculum; and establish relationships with organizations to deliver instruction on the medical aspects of the education which requires a high level of medical skill and knowledge.
