Job Duties

The Investigative Specialist title series was created effective June 16, 2016, and consolidated a wide variety of investigative titles.  Please visit Frequently Asked Questions for further information regarding this consolidation and Investigator Title Listing for a list of the titles consolidated.

These positions exist only in the Department of Financial Services.  These positions have Peace Officer status.  As an Investigative Specialist 2 (Financial Fraud) you would, supervise or manage investigations related to the administration and enforcement of the laws, rules and regulations pertaining to alleged fraud involving financial entities.  You may supervise lower level staff; you may schedule and assign cases to subordinate staff based on program priorities and individual workloads and abilities.  You may plan the scope and method of an investigation, and coordinate filed activities of assigned staff.  You may also coordinate investigations with other agency staff or external entities.   You may provide guidance and assistance to lower level investigative staff in gathering and evaluating information and evidence.  You may discuss the progress of cases with staff to ensure that performance standards are being met.  You may review completed investigation reports for adequacy of coverage, quality of finding, and soundness of recommendations and/or make recommendations consistent with agency findings and agency policy and practice.  You may prepare periodic status reports for agency program and management staff.  You may personally investigate difficult and sensitive investigations and participate in interagency taskforces.
