Job Duties

As a Bridge Repair Supervisor 2, you would plan, organize, and schedule the activities of bridge repair crews. You would estimate materials, equipment, and labor requirements and prepare reports on programs and accomplishments. You may assist in condition inspections of bridges. You will be required to supervise and/or perform snow and ice control activities.

Summary of Minimum Qualifications

You must take and pass a Civil Service examination to be considered for appointment to this position.  

There are two examinations held for this position. Please note: New York State employees may qualify for both.

On or before the date of the examination, you must be a qualified employee of the New York State Department of Transportation and have had three months of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as a Bridge Repair Supervisor 1.

For all other qualified individuals, the candidate must have:

1. three years experience in the construction, reconstruction, maintenance, or rehabilitation of bridges;

AND

2. either:

A. two years experience in bridge, highway or waterway construction, reconstruction, maintenance, rehabilitation, or inspection;

OR

B. two years college coursework in carpentry, plumbing, welding, or in a program leading to a degree in construction technology may be substituted for non-supervisory experience on the basis of 30 semester credit hours equaling one year of general experience.
