Job Duties

As a Canal Equipment Specialist, you would, on a state-wide basis, evaluate equipment operation and maintenance needs; participate in the development of purchasing specifications; provide technical assistance to Canal Section Superintendents on proper repair/maintenance work and procedures; conduct on-site training for field staff; respond to canal emergencies; inspect equipment and make recommendations for improvements/replacements; and assist in the preparation of the equipment budget.

Summary of Minimum Qualifications

You must take and pass a Civil Service examination in order to be considered for this position.

For qualified employees of New York State on or before the date of filing application, you must be a qualified employee of the New York State Canal Corporation or the New York State Thruway Authority and have had three months permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as an Assistant Canal Equipment Specialist, Canal Electrical Supervisor, Canal Maintenance Shop Supervisor 2, Canal Maintenance Supervisor 2, Canal Section Superintendent, or Floating Plant Supervisor.
