Job Duties

As a Supervising Equipment Operator Instructor, you would be required to plan, coordinate, and supervise all Equipment Operator Instructors in your assigned region under the general direction of the Coordinator Equipment Operator Instruction. You would develop training schedules and prioritize training requests for the Highway Maintenance Workers; evaluate training programs; compile and maintain records of training activities; compile technical materials, manuals, and charts; and serve as the lead evaluator and instructor at specialty equipment training programs. You may also manage your region’s Regional Equipment pool; serve as the regional point of contact for the Statewide Equipment Pool; schedule and rent equipment as necessary; provide technical advice beyond traditional instruction, such as creating specifications and evaluating equipment; and coordinate emergencies.

Summary of Minimum Qualifications

You must take and pass a Civil Service examination in order to be considered for this position.

On or before the date of the examination, the candidate must be a qualified employee of the New York State Department of Transportation and have had three months of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as an Equipment Operator Instructor.

License Requirement: At the time of appointment and continuously thereafter, you must have a valid New York State Class A commercial driver’s license with no air brake restriction.
