Job Duties

A Correctional Facility Specialist 2 serves as a senior field representative; exercises broad discretion on behalf of the Commission and undertakes the agency's more complex and extensive projects and programs; serves as team leader, formulating and facilitating problem resolution, compliance or enforcement strategies; devises technical assistance strategies; assists facility administrators in developing policies, procedures and acceptable plans to correct violations; interprets and applies rules and regulations to various problems and conditions; plans and schedules fieldwork, sets priorities among assignments, establishes divisions of labor on assigned project teams, and prepares all staff recommendations to the Commission; organizes and conducts field evaluation exit conferences with facility administrators, transmitting findings and recommendations to them; conducts sensitive and complex investigations, including mortality and health-related investigations; and trains, advises and mentors Correctional Facility Specialists 1.  The duties of this class emphasize leadership in the field, development of strategies to address and resolve operational deficiencies; interpretation of Commission policy, the drafting of recommendations to the Commission, and the selection of tactics and strategies to be used by staff.

Summary of Minimum Qualifications

You must take and pass a Civil Service examination in order to be considered for this position.

On or before the date of the examination, the candidate must be a qualified employee of the New York State Commission of Correction and have had three months of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as a Correctional Facility Specialist 1 or Senior Utilization Review Nurse.
