Job Duties

As a Chief Life Actuary 2, one oversees all actuarial activities for a section made up of two or more units; supervises Chief Life Actuaries 3 or Chief Casualty Actuaries 3, depending on the area (life, health or casualty); establishes procedures for reviewing section work; develops standards for awarding actuarial consulting contracts and reviews the work of actuarial consultants; represents the Department on various committees; and educates the public and industry on the procedures and positions of the Department on actuarial issues.

Summary of Minimum Qualifications

You must take and pass a Civil Service examination in order to be considered for this position.

For qualified employees of New York State on or before the date of filing application you must be a qualified employee of New York State Insurance Department and have had one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as Chief Life Actuary 3 and Fellowship in the Society of Actuaries.
