Summary of Job Description

As a Conservation Operations Supervisor 1, you would be a working supervisor of one or more small crews responsible for completing a variety of tasks. These tasks include the maintenance, operation, rehabilitation, improvement, or construction of department structures and facilities; including buildings and grounds, trail and road systems, recreation facilities, environmental education centers, fish hatcheries, water access sites, state forests, wildlife management areas, or automotive maintenance centers. Duties may include the operation of a variety of power driven and self-propelled mechanical equipment.

Summary of Minimum Qualifications

You must take and pass a Civil Service examination in order to be considered for this position.

There are two examinations held for this position.  Please note:  New York State employees may qualify for both.  

For qualified employees of New York State on or before the date of the examination, you must be a qualified employee of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and have had three months permanent competitive, non competitive, or 55 b/55 c service as a Construction Equipment Operator, General Mechanic, Trades Generalist, Labor Supervisor, Facility Operations Assistant 2, Maintenance Assistant, Maintenance Assistant Mechanic, Service & Repair Assistant (Motor Equipment), or Maintenance Assistant Parks.

For all other qualified individuals, candidates must have three years of experience in general construction or maintenance.
