Water Safety & Instruction Assistant function independently and have the direct and primary responsibility for the supervision, security, safety and protection of all patrons, staff and water safety equipment.

This title is non-competitive. No examination is necessary. However, you must still meet the Minimum Qualifications of the position.
Candidates must:
1. Possess and maintain current certificates in the following American Red Cross programs: Basic Lifeguarding, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, and Standard First Aid; or any equivilent training program approved by the Commissioner of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation. Copies of these certifications must be provided upon request and must remain current throughout the term of employment.
2. Meet Agency water and CPR practical qualifications.
3. Have a minimum of 2 seasons (four months) of experience in an organized water safety position or activity such as swim team, water polo, ligeguarding, synchronized swimming, organized water exercise, teaching swimming lessons, etc.
4. Submit a physical fitness certification signed by a physician.
5. Obtain within the probationary period and maintain Water Safety Instructor certificate.
An examination is not used to fill this title. You must meet the minimum qualifications of the title in order to be considered for this position. You must apply directly to the agency or agencies that have this title.
