GOLF COURSE SUPERINTENDENT 1: independently manages the maintenance, design, upkeep, environmental planning, and course management for an 18-hole regulation golf course; functions as a technical expert in areas such as turf maintenance, insect and blight damage prevention, irrigation, environmental protection, course layout and daily set-up for play, and operational elements of course play such as tee times, starter, ranger and pace-of-play issues, and handles player complaints.

This title is non-competitive. No examination is necessary. However, you must still meet the Minimum Qualifications of the position.
Candidates must have five years' experience in planning, coordinating, directing and supervising the maintenance of a golf course and adjoining grounds. This includes relevant experience as an Assistant Golf Course Superintendent, Golf Course Maintenance Supervisor, Golf Course Manager 1 or 2, or equivalent. College education in turf agronomy, golf course maintenance or equivalent may be substituted for up to four years' experience on a year-for-year basis. Training in turf management may be substituted for up to two years' experience at the rate of 20 Continuing Education Units (CEU) equal to one year of education (10 contact hours of training = 1 CEU). A maximum of four years of education/training may be substituted for experience.
An examination is not used to fill this title. You must meet the minimum qualifications of the title in order to be considered for this position. You must apply directly to the agency or agencies that have this title.
