Summary of Job Description

Pesticide Control Specialists are responsible for the oversight, administration, and implementation of state and federal pesticide laws, rules, and regulations to ensure compliance in the distribution, storage, sale, application, and use of pesticides in the state. You would perform routine inspection of facilities and pesticide applications; investigate reported cases of pesticide misuse and pesticide-related incidents; collect samples, write reports, and provide testimony in support of investigations; administer certification exam sessions; monitor and evaluate pesticide applicator and recertification training programs to ensure they meet requirements of pesticide certification and recertification training standards; conduct certification and recertification training and examinations; review and issue Aquatic Pesticide Purchase Permits to pond owners and assist in the review of aquatic pesticide permit applications; and provide pesticide information, interpret regulations, and make presentations to the regulated community and other interested parties.

Summary of Minimum Qualifications

You must take and pass a Civil Service examination in order to be considered for this position.  There are two examinations to fill this title.

On or before the examination date, you must have a bachelor's or higher-level degree in agronomy, agriculture, agricultural engineering, animal science, biochemistry, biology, chemistry, entomology, environmental science, geology, environmental studies, natural resources, forestry, forest biology, aquatic biology, marine biology, wildlife biology, horticulture, botany, or plant pathology.

The Professional Careers Opportunities (PCO) examination is also used to fill this title.
