Job Duties

As a Retirement Systems Information Representative, in general, you would be responsible for the dissemination of retirement information to individual members of the New York State and Local Retirement Systems and the New York State Teachersí Retirement System (NYSTRS), their beneficiaries, their employers, and the employee or retiree organizations that represent their interests.  You would resolve problems and answer questions from members and retirees at the Systemsí headquarters in Albany or at field consultation sites or regional centers throughout New York State.  

The level of the titles within this career ladder vary based on the level of supervision, complexity of the duties involved, degree of independent judgment, etc.

Summary of Minimum Qualifications

You must take and pass a Civil Service examination in order to be considered for this position.

There are two examinations held for this position.  

For qualified employees of New York State on or before the date of the examination, you must be a qualified employee of the New York State Teachers' Retirement System and have had three months permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as a Retirement Systems Information Representative 1 or a Retirement Systems Information Representative 2.

For qualified employees of New York State on or before the date of the examination, you must be a qualified employee of the New York State Office of the State Comptroller and have had three months of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as:

Either A. a Retirement Systems Information Representative Trainee 2, a Retirement Systems Information Representative 1, or a Retirement Systems Information Representative 2;
Or B. an Employees Retirement System Examiner 5.
