Job Duties
As an Associate Economist (Milk Marketing), you would apply economic theories to the collection and analysis of economic information related to the dairy industry. You would plan, review, and evaluate the work of Senior Economists and other staff; independently prepare major reports for publication; and conduct technical research of exceptional difficulty. You would direct the preparation of materials for publication, respond to requests for data from various stakeholders, and may be called to testify before a regulatory hearing or a legal proceeding and may be subject to cross-examination.

Summary of Minimum Qualifications

You must take and pass a Civil Service examination in order to be considered for this position.
For qualified employees of New York State on or before the date of the examination, you must be a qualified employee of New York State and have had three months of permanent competitive, non-competitive NY HELPS**, or 55-b/55-c service as shown below. If you have received a permanent appointment to a qualifying title listed and served provisionally*** in that title immediately preceding your permanent appointment, such provisional service may be counted towards meeting the time in title required for this examination.
Either A. Senior Economist, Senior Economist (Environmental Impact), Senior Economist (Labor Research), Senior Economist (Milk Marketing), Econometrician 1, Economist Trainee 1, Economist Trainee 1 (Environmental Impact), Economist Trainee 1 (Labor Research), Economist Trainee 2, Economist Trainee 2 (Environmental Impact), or Economist Trainee 2 (Labor Research);
Or B. Senior Statistician, Statistician Trainee 1, or Statistician Trainee 2.
Only the title or titles listed are qualifying.
If you were permanently appointed to a qualifying title on or before June 19, 2026, and have served continuously in this title since that date, you are eligible to file for this examination.
**If you were permanently appointed via the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide (NY HELPS) program to a qualifying title in the non-competitive class on or before June 19, 2026, and have served continuously in this title since that date, you may apply for this examination.
***If you were permanently appointed to a qualifying title and had provisional service in the same title immediately preceding the permanent appointment, such provisional service may be counted towards meeting the time in title required to apply for this examination. Your provisional appointment must have been on or before June 19, 2026, to qualify for this examination.
