Summary of Job Description

As a Professional Engineer 1 (Mechanical/HVAC), you may perform professional engineering duties related to projects concerned primarily with the design and evaluation of operating systems for heating, ventilating and air conditioning; and advise and recommend systems for energy and power transmission, conservation and distribution, heat transfer and various systems such as for cooling towers, boilers, air quality and ventilation.

Summary of Minimum Qualifications

You must take and pass a Civil Service Examination in order to be considered for this position.

There are two examinations held for this position.

For qualified employees of New York State on or before the date of the examination, candidates must have a New York State Professional Engineer’s License and current registration AND be a qualified employee of New York State (See Important Note) AND have had one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as follows:

Assistant Engineer (Mechanical/HVAC)

Important Note: You are only eligible to apply to the agency where you are currently employed or on leave from.

For all other qualified individuals, on or before the date of filing an application, candidates must have:

Either 1.a New York State Professional Engineer's license and current registration AND a qualifying bachelor's degree or higher as listed below;

Or 2.a New York State Professional Engineer's license and current registration AND one year of full-time qualifying engineering experience as listed below:

Qualifying degrees: Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or Engineering Science with a recognized concentration in any of the above listed engineering degrees.

Qualifying experience: One year of full-time engineering experience in Mechanical/HVAC.
