Job Duties

As a Professional Engineer 2 (Civil/Construction), you will perform professional engineering duties related to the oversight of construction design, project budget, estimates, work plans and contract changes; direct large complex building construction projects for conformity to specifications and standards; coordinate the work of several contractors; review, analyze, and report on new and revised provisions of law; supervise other engineers; may recommend new or revised provisions of law concerning structural safety, adequacy and stability; and advise code enforcement officials, architects, engineers and contractors in the interpretation of provisions of the codes. You will also supervise subordinate licensed professional engineering and technical staff; plan, direct, and review major projects, indicating by their seal that work conforms to accepted engineering standards and serve as head of an engineering section. These positions are found in the Office of General Services.

You must take and pass a Civil Service examination in order to be considered for this position.

On or before the date of the examination, you must be a qualified employee of New York State and have had three months of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as a Professional Engineer 1 (Civil/Construction) and a New York State Professional Engineer's license with current registration.
