Assnt Supt Of Construction
As an Assistant Superintendent of Construction, you would perform and/or oversee construction supervision and inspection of medium sized or a medium sized portion of large building construction projects to ensure adherence to specifications, contracts and good work standards. You may be reassigned on a temporary or permanent basis to any project in the state regardless of location. At the Department of Environmental Conservation, you would perform similar duties for buildings and other structures which include, but are not limited to, dams, bridges, and boat launches. You may be reassigned on a temporary or permanent basis to any project in the state regardless of location.

You must take and pass a Civil Service examination in order to be considered for this position.
There are two examinations for this position. Please note: New York State employees may qualify for both.
For employees of New York State, on or before the date of the examination, the candidate must be a qualified employee of the New York State Office of General Services and have had three months of permanent non-competitive service as a Junior Superintendent of Construction.
For all other qualified individuals, on or before the date of the examination, candidates must have either:
1. an associate’s degree in engineering, engineering technology, architecture, architectural technology, or construction technology AND three years of qualifying experience as described below;**
2. five years of qualifying experience as described below.**
**Experience assisting in the management of multi-trade construction projects from inception to completion to include cost estimating, construction planning and scheduling; contract document reading and interpretation, including agreement and conditions, plans and specifications; and construction inspection to ensure compliance with building codes for construction projects.
