Construction Estimator 2 Architectural
As a Construction Estimator 2 (Architectural), you would estimate the costs of site work and of construction elements in the building and their installation; review payment requisitions and prepare and review the cost of change order works; make detailed quantity and cost estimates for materials and labor from plans and specifications, and estimate costs of construction for various types of buildings; review the accuracy of quantities and total costs prepared by Construction Estimator 1 (Architectural); make detailed estimates for changes in contracts, and confer with higher ranking construction estimators on modifications to and/or substitutes for equipment and prepare general descriptions and sketches of work and equipment involved in construction based on plans and specifications.

You must take and pass a Civil Service examination in order to be considered for this position.
There are two examinations that fill this title. Please note that qualified employees of New York State may qualify for both.
For qualified New York State employees, on or before the date of examination, you must be a qualified employee of the New York State and have had three months of permanent competitive, non-competitive, or 55-b/55-c service as an Assistant Superintendent of Construction, Construction Estimator 1 (all parenthetics), Engineer Trainee, Junior Architect, Junior Landscape Architect, or Principal Drafting Technician (all parenthetics).
For all qualified individuals, on or before the date of examination, you must have:
Either 1. six years of experience in estimating cost of architectural or engineering work. One year must have included experience in cost preparation and/or cost review of architectural or engineering building projects;
Or 2. an associate's degree in engineering, engineering technology, architecture, architectural technology, construction technology, construction management, or building sciences AND four years of experience in estimating cost of architectural or engineering work. One year must have included experience in cost preparation and/or cost review of architectural or engineering building projects;
Or 3. a bachelor's or higher degree in engineering, engineering technology, architecture, architectural technology, construction technology, construction management, or building sciences AND two years of experience in estimating cost of architectural or engineering work. One year must have included experience in cost preparation and/or cost review of architectural or engineering building projects.
