Summary of Job Description

As a Licensed Psychologist in the Office of Mental Health, you would supervise and/or provide professional psychological services. In addition to assessment and treatment, your duties may include: clinical leadership; program management; forensic or court-ordered assessment, treatment and expert testimony; psychological services requiring expertise in neuropsychology, child and adolescent psychology, geropsychology, sexual offense treatment, cognitive rehabilitation, trauma, and substance and/or chemical abuse programs; specialized assessment (functional, personality, risk, competency, vocational, education); design and application of behavioral technology and other specialized psychological interventions; individual, group or family therapy; crisis intervention; consultation to other agencies; training; and peer review.

As a Licensed Psychologist in the Office of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities, you would provide professional psychological services including, but not limited to: clinical evaluations such as functional, forensic, and risk assessments; performance of psychological duties as required by public or criminal laws such as expert witness, probation reports, fitness to proceed (with own defense), need for involuntary admission, and objection to treatment determinations; development and oversight of behavior management plans; and provision of individual, group and/or family psychotherapy or counseling, including arson and sexual offender treatment. You may also be required to supervise psychological services provided by non-licensed psychology staff as well as develop and conduct psychology-related training for all levels of direct care and clinical staff. You can expect increased forensic-related duties if you are assigned to a Designated Secure Facility.

Candidates must be licensed and currently registered to practice psychology in New York State.

If you are selected for appointment as a Licensed Psychologist (Spanish Language), you will be required to demonstrate proficiency in that language. Proficiency must be at a level which will permit you to perform the duties of the position satisfactorily.
