Job Duties

As a Hearing Officer 2, you would supervise Hearing Officers 1 and other legal staff engaged in conducting hearings and oversee office management and general oversight of procedures. You would review and monitor hearings and decisions of assigned staff for legal sufficiency and adherence to agency policy and procedures; and ensure findings are based on facts and written decisions are clear, concise, and timely. In some cases, you may be assigned to oversee hearings of more difficult, time sensitive, and precedent-setting cases, and would not be required to supervise staff.

Summary of Minimum Qualifications

You must take and pass a Civil Service examination in order to be considered for this position.

On or before the date of the examination, you must be a qualified employee of New York State and have had three months of permanent competitive, non-competitive NY HELPS*, or 55-b/55-c service as shown below. If you have received a permanent appointment to a qualifying title listed and served provisionally** in that title immediately preceding your permanent appointment, such provisional service may be counted towards meeting the time in title required for this examination.
