Job Duties
As a Crime Victims Specialist 2 (Spanish Language), you would supervise a unit of Crime Victims Specialists 1, monitor the quality of claims completed, determine the frequency of reviews, troubleshoot claims issues and triage Emergency Awards. You would evaluate Workers' Compensation role in awards by accessing Workers' Compensation Board database, review and analyze claims to determine whether they should be reopened and at what level, or reviewed by legal office for appeal. You would also oversee training material development, represent the Office of Victim Services at events and conferences, and may present at annual conferences.

Summary of Minimum Qualifications

For employees of New York State, on or before the date of the examination, you must be a qualified employee of the Office of Victim Services and have had three months of permanent competitive, non-competitive NY HELPS*, or 55-b/55-c service as either:
A. a Crime Victims Specialist Trainee, Crime Victims Specialist 1, or Crime Victims Specialist 1 (Spanish Language);
Or
B. a Program Aide or Program Aide (Spanish Language)***.
***Due to the 2017 title structure change, permanent competitive, non-competitive NY HELPS*, or 55-b/55-c service as an Agency Program Aide or Agency Program Aide (Spanish Language) is also qualifying.
Only the title or titles listed are qualifying.
If you have received a permanent appointment to a qualifying title listed and served provisionally** in that title immediately preceding your permanent appointment, such provision service may be counted towards meeting the time in title required for this examination.
If you pass the examination and apply to a title which requires language proficiency, you must demonstrate your language proficiency at a level that will ensure your ability to perform the duties of the position properly. The proficiency test will only be given to enough candidates to fill current vacancies.
