Summary of Job Description

FILTER PLANT OPERATOR: operates and is responsible for pressure filter plants and water distribution systems; monitors and adjusts control panels, gauges, chlorinators, filters, and other equipment; takes samples of water, performs tests, and records test results; adds chemicals and adjusts water treatments to meet quality standards; cleans, repairs, calibrates, and maintains pumps, screens, valves, meters, other equipment and systems, and the physical plant; removes, cleans, and replaces filters and screens; adds to and rakes sand in filter beds; calibrates and repairs testing equipment; orders supplies, chemicals and maintenance parts and equipment; may instruct and supervise other workers in operating and maintaining plants and equipment; prepares and maintains records related to work activities, inventory, and monitoring and testing; prepares and submits reports about testing and maintenance; and may be assigned to operate other plants and perform semiskilled maintenance activities.

Summary of Minimum Qualifications

This title is non-competitive.  No examination is necessary.  However, you must still meet the Minimum Qualifications of the position.

Candidates must have certification from the Department of Health in the grade required for operation of the plant to which assigned; appointees may be temporarily employed pending certification, but must be removed if they fail to achieve certification.
