Summary of Job Description

As a Transportation Supervisor 2, you would be responsible for the supervision and management of all activities of a large motor pool of a State agency or facility. In addition to those described for Transportation Supervisor 1, your activities may also include: scheduling and revising bus runs; contracting for outside bus services; selecting, assigning, and supervising drivers; receiving, answering, and acting on complaints and injury reports; ensuring that safety regulations are met; and maintaining records of transportation operations following agency and Department of Motor Vehicles regulations.

Summary of Minimum Qualifications

You must take and pass an examination in order to be considered for this position. There are two examinations that fill this title. Please note that current employees of New York State may qualify for both.

For all qualified New York State employees: On or before the date of the written test, you must be a qualified employee of New York State and have had three months of permanent competitive, non-competitive, or 55-b/55-c service as:

Either A. Transportation Supervisor 1;

Or B. Bus Driver or Motor Vehicle Operator.

Only the title(s) listed is qualifying for this examination(s).

For all qualified individuals: On or before the date of the written test, you must be a qualified employee of New York State and have had three months of permanent competitive, non-competitive, or 55-b/55-c service as:

Either 1. four years of experience in the management or supervision of fleet operations or daily dispatching of motor vehicles from a pool of at least 30 vehicles;

Or 2. seven years of experience overseeing the maintenance of motor vehicles and keeping records and reports of that maintenance from a pool of at least 30 vehicles.

Substitution: For either examination, you may substitute a high school diploma or a high school equivalency diploma issued by an appropriate educational authority for two years of the experience described in #1, or four years of the experience described in #2.
